
Pugs are susceptible to a number of different skin conditions. These can include bacterial skin infections, fungal skin infections, parasitic skin diseases and allergic skin conditions.Pyodermas Bacterial skin infections (pyodermas) are caused by staphylococci. There are two variations to this type of condition: face fold pyoderma and tail fold pyoderma. The face fold pyoderma is located within the folds of your Pug's face and the tail fold pyoderma is located within the folds found in the tail region. The skin surfaces within the folds rub together making the skin wet and swollen and a perfect area where bacteria like to grow.The signs of pyodermas are inflammation within the areas of the folds, irritation of the skin sometimes causing redness and it is also commonly itchy. There may even be yellow pustules that can be found early in the disease. As the disease advances the infected area can become dry and crusted and there may be hair loss. Generally, the moist skin also gives off a foul smell.The treatment for pyodermas is to have it checked by a veterinarian who will most likely prescribe a benzoyl peroxide shampoo and a gel to use after the bath, to help dry the skin
